This page is devoted to my high school senior project. This project is the reason that there haven't been any more articles for a while... I've been busy with it. Basically, if I want to graduate my hickschool, then I have to do it. It is composed of three parts. The first is a research paper consisting of 2000 to 3000 words. The second is a project upon which 15 hours of time must be spent. The third is a ten minute long speech detailing the first two portions of the project.
My research paper is titled "Improving network performance", and it details just that. Specifically,
it's focus is on Novell networks, because that is what I have available to me... the closest thing
a TCP/IP connection I have is my 28.8 modem with a SLIP connection! Anyways, it talks about general
methods of reducing overhead, and the number of packets sent. It specifically talks about how to
reduce the number of packets sent in the application of my paper, my project. You can read my paper
here.
The project is a nifty game entitled "SpiffyPilot". One day I had the pleasure of playing
X-Pilot on some Sparcs... That is what spawned the idea. SPilot goes much beyond X-Pilot in a
number of ways. In SPilot, you can turn and fire, just like in X-Pilot. The differance is that
instead of your ship turning, the whole screen turns, for a much more dramatic effect. You can also
jump and launch missles. You just have to try it to believe it. It runs well on a 486/33 and up,
and it is speed compensated. You can download the current beta version or the source code
here.
Because there is nothing to show for the speech portion of the project, I can't put anything here!
NOTE: These pages are all very old. This project is very dead.
